tropical et sub-tropical, soumis aux moussons. La moyenne annuelle des températures est d'environ 25°C  mais avec des pics enregistrés à plus de 40°C et des minimum à 10 °C.

Phu Bia.
Le Laos est un pays de montagnes et de hauts plateaux qui encerclent les quelques plaines.
Le mont culminant est le mont Bia qui s'élève à 2 820 mètres.

Population pluriethnique composée de plus de 60 minorités ethniques, généralement regroupées en trois grandes familles : les Lao Loum, ethnies lao qui peuplent les plaines (56%), les Lao Theung vivant en moyenne altitude (34%), les Lao Sung, montagnards (9%) et quelques Vietnamiens et Chinois (1%).

The yearly average temperature is about 25 °C, rising to a maximum of 40 °C in April and May. Minima at 10 °C. In mountainous areas, however, temperatures drop to 14-15 °C during the winter months, and in cold nights easily reach the freezing point.
